dd is 18
she never looked after her diabetes (had since toddler)and saw Dr alone since around 15. changed to adult team at 16 and hated doing injections and blood tests so changed from basal bolus to mixtard 30 around a year or so ago. December was in hospital with severe dka. spoke to me today been high for weeks and Cant get diabetes under control . wants to change back to basal bolus. hasnt had appointment since dka and doesnt know who diabetes nurse is.
wants my help and doesnt feel she can sort this alone. very down and upset.
shall i ring gp tomorrow and ask them to get her an appointment ? or try and get telephone consult with gp ? will they talk to me as she is 18? or ring hospital or even go to a and e? and try and push for appointment there? - has ketones and regularly sick but ticking over with fast acting insulin for a few weeks and not v bad in as much as dka danger area.

You should be able to sort an appointment out for her and go with her I could be wrong but I am sure I got told in my ethic lecture you have parental responsibility until they are 19 as that's when they are considered an adult officially
