Hi

I recently introduced myself and explained that I manage (?) my diabetes with exercise and meds, 2 x gliclazide and 4 x metformin.

My exercise regime has been quite excessive, and getting in the way of normal life, so my DN suggested we cut down to something more reasonable to see what happens.

As I'm retired time is not too short a commodity, well not in this context anyway, so I do walk or cycle in preference to driving if appropriate. So I have been walking or cycling maybe one hour morning and afternoon.

Today my pre-lunch was 5.2. I had a normal for me lunch of 55g carbs. My normal afternoon walk would have left me with BG much the same as before. However I wasn't able to do one, and when I tested before tea I was 9.3 (gulp), so I nipped onto my cross trainer and did 20 mins of reasonable exercise. I retested immediately and was down to 6.0.

Quite a satisfying result.

Is this to be expected? Why wasn't it lower than 9.3 anyway considering my meds? Does this suggest low insulin production, or insulin intolerance?

If this is 'normal' it would suggest that I need to exercise shortly after food to get BG down quickly, rather than leave it high for a longer time if this is how it's going to hang around.

Am I over analysing? Should I worry about these numbers? I know there are people here with much tighter control, but how important is it?

Sorry for the long post and number of questions:-(
