Hi all, im type 1 diabetic, 22 weeks pregnant, have stage 2 retinopathy and neuropathy, i have had 2 admissions to hospital in last 4 weeks, where i have found somewhere along the line i have been taking wrong insulin from the gp surgery, which has given me so many hypos you wouldnt believe but no allot was done as thought it was down to pregnancy,
I was admitted both times to hospital with vomiting ongoing uti and feeling aweful no energy etc,
Now i have been going over my marernity notes and have noticed that my Protein to Creatine ratio has gone from 234, and now its 334 and where as before i always had 3+protei in my urine dip stick i now have 4+, i have been getting headaches and swollen feet n ankels, and genrally feeling under the weather, i dont trust my medical team and dont know what to do who to talk to, i have seen in my notes pre eclampsia ? but they have said it will be hard to detect this as i already have protein in urine, from what i can see i now have more protein in wee, along with headaches, swelling from time to time and blood pressure ranges from 106/67 too 148/85, over my 3 day admission to hospital.
what should i be doing?
Who should i talk too?
first pregnancy so little worried plz help xxx

Hello Jenny.84, congrats at being pregnant, but your have so much going on, we will all help you along the way.
Have you asked your Obstritian for a referal to the diabetic specialist to get your medication under control, and have you had the Hb1Ac test done recently?,this is important to have done, it will give you a good starting point.
Ask the hospital specialist for the right insulin, and always have any results copied to you and to the obstritian for your maternity file. As about the results you have read in your ante natal file and ask what things can be done to improve the protein/creatine results, and what steps should you be taking regarding the pre-eclampsia, they have found.
What these consultants says is so important for you and your baby, and they will be fully onboard for your care. Then ask your gp, diabetic nurse to take you through the necessary tests to check and monitor your bs levels, ask if you can be refered to the Diabetic Specialist Nurse, if they so cannot, then ask the hospital specialist, to refer you for the support that they can offer you.
If they recomend bed rest, either at home or in hospital then take it, it is vital for rst and help towards the pre-eclampsia, and lessening of this really serious condition.
Unfortunatley swollen feet and ankles are a part of pregnancy and these are helped by putting your feet up and resting, and if allowed by the maternity team, prgnancy tights/support tights, but with the pre-eclampsia being asked about, but dont wear high heels they will put your balance out of kilter, and then the backache starts.
Work with the doctors at the hospital to get you feeling better-ish while you are waiting for your precious one to arrive, keep posting us and will follow your posts, for now ttfn

Hi, yes i have a diabetic specialist nurse and team and i go to anti natal appointments which is a joint high risk anti natal clinic, the obstertician is always there, my hba1c is actually really good but after having diabetes for 28 years i know that tbh the hba1c is just an average of lots of blood sugars so with pregnancy i could have few highs a week and the rest hypos and this would come out as a good hba1c, i have been given the correct insulin now, the hospital discharged me with it so jist got get doctors to add it on my list of stuff i need order regulary,
I will take a list of questions for them to ask next time round as i dont feel they are taking it seriously, they just dont give you any information about nothing rhey tell me i need rake this and that but dont explain why, like at the moment i have to get to doctors get B12 vitamin and iron tablets too, nothing has been explained to me.
I just feel allot of mistakes have been made by the team so i dont feel i can trust them if it was just me and my care i wouldnt be so concerned but this is also by babies care / life they are trying to help / treat,
I had a uti since i was 9 weeks pregnant im now 22 weeks pregnant and still have it, they at the start forgot to tell me i had it and didnt give me medication for it, i have taken 3 lots of medication been in hospital on anti biotic drip to try clear it , but still not cleared rhey said im sensitive to the medication they are giving me for it yet they have rexently give me them again, surely thats not right and if they havent worked as was on them for 4 days in hospotal on drip and 10 days on oral anti biotic and aint gone they dont work right ?
Rhen in hospital they struggle to get blood from me tried on 2 different days no luck and on last say said we need blood taken did they bother no.
I calldd yesterday for results from urine test as it gets sent off to a lab and they try grow bugs or something, was told yeah its fine, but i know its not as i asked what all the readings are and what rhey told me shows that there is still a infection there.
With regards to high heels i cant walk in them anyway lol im a flat shoed girl lol and the backache is already there lol, i think i will just have it out with them tell them exactly how i feel that i cant trust them and see what they do or say xxx

Hi jenny84, well what a shambles the doctors have you in, not getting rid of the uti, and being unwell is not good for yoy or your baby, the obstertricin had better get his act together. Are you going to get him on the ball, and find the right treatment to get you better? Has your gp any input for your treatment ?, what is the world of anti-natal coming to, be careful with the iron tablets, they have a nasty habit of causing constipation on a big scale, you wont want that to happen, for the backache, have a back massage done gently to relax the muscles, which will be worse due to the infection you are struggling with, see if you can find a massuse or beauty therapist to do your massage, As for blood test, ask for a phlebomtomist, they are better skilled and a lot more successful, keep telling us how you are doing, ttfn
