hi, ive recently been diagnosed with type 1, im 19, i keep getting pins and needles and sharp pains in my feet is this normal? im not sure if to do with the diabetes or something else? Anyone else have the same problem?
 
Hi and welcome to the forum Corrie

The pins and needles may go once you've got your blood glucose levels stabilised, if at all concerned then have a chat with your gp or diabetes care team.
 
ok thank your there so painful i was in tears last night, just wondering what it was about whether it was the diabetes or not, Thank you.

Can't say for sure, it might be a symptom of high bg if your levels are high, but it could be a number of other things unrelated to your diabetes and the timing is just co-incidental. As I say, if it's that bad where it is making you tearful then I think you need to get a check-up.
 
Im going to the nurse on the 28th ill tell her then but also seeing my diabetic doctor from the hospital on tuesday so ill tell her aswell and see what she says.
 
I agree with the other posts. In the mean time ensure that your blood sugar levels are under reasonable control e.g typically below 10 mmol 2 hours after a meal using the meter. I assume you have been given a glucose meter? As you may also be aware from this forum you need to keep the carbs down to help maintain sugar control without needing too much insulin; it also helps avoid weight gain.
 
yeah no my sugars arent that low at the minute i only got told last thursday that i was a diabetic type 1, so, so far my sugars have gone from 19/20 to 11/12 in a week which im quite glad off, as i was loosing weight quick i lost 6lbs in 4 days , so the doctors rushed me into hospital with a bg of 30, ill have a word i mean im not a skinny binny anyway.
