I have been type 2 since 1999 and for the most part have been able to hold my levels under 10. The last few months I dont seem to be able to keep my levels below 11 and they are rising I have just been put on metformin but I need to know how to get this under control as every time i eat my sugar goes nuts.

I dont eat masses but now any sort of meal seems to make my evels shoot up

I know this is a bad time and the levels are unacceptable but I need to know what to eat or do to try to get them down. I go to the gym twice a week so I get excercise but I am at my wits end as to how to lower the levels.

Are we talking an HbA1c of 10% or regular daily blood tests?

Whichever you are taking about 10 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to high :(

Tell us about what you eat and we can maybe offer you some advice that might help you to reduce it :D

Do you test your blood regualrly? If you don't, it is worth considering doing that. It has helped me to get my blood sugar readings under my control.

Welcome to the boards, take a look around, especially the diet and food forums :D

Hi

Its my daily test levels, I meant 10 after food but anyway its still off the ricter scale.

I have to be honest I run my own firm and eat at different times of the day but I stay away from fast food or as much junk as I can but my sugar just sort of goes mad even if I have a balanced meal. There is a lot of stress at work as most people have these days and I wonder if that might be contributing.

Thanks for the welcome, I will look around and see what I can take on board

Thanks for the help

Tony

Good to meet you Tony and I hope we can help.
Give us an idea of a typical days menu and I'm sure we can suggest a few ideas to make a difference in your numbers.
And yes, stress can make a difference, so relax, you're amongst friends here.

All the best,

fergus

Cheers for that

There is so much advice out there and the medics tend to stick to a scripted route when we are all individual.

Typical is hard but mostly, toast with olive spread or weetabix for breakfast, sandwich of ham, turkey, tuna mayo salad for lunch, evening meal varies but I try to get meat and veg in most days. No fast food at alland I only drink occasionally.

I do fill in when I get home with sandwichs of processed meats and I like bread.

I am seriously thinking of trying a low carb diet to see if it will bring my levels down to a better level, whats your thoughts

Tony

Well, it's easy to see where your carbs are coming from.

Toast, weetabix, sandwich.

Are you adhering to low-GI with these carbs? If not I suggest taking a look at some online literature about it. Alternative to this, unless you go down the route of increasing your meds - which won't be recommended around here - you might wanna try looking at alternatives to the carbs you're taking.

Hi Tony,

Why not take a look at at the newbies guide and the success stories threads in the low carb forum?
You wouldn't be the first to turn things around very quickly, often reducing their meds and feeling a whole lot better at the same time!

All the best,

fergus
