Hi there, this is my first post. My father is type 1 diabetic, and has other various issues such as heart failure, copd, end stage kidney failure among others. For the past few days his blood sugars have been anywhere from high twenties to off the scale thirties (flashing HI symbol).
Since 5 pm this evening he has been flashing HI, and the reading hasn't come down. I don't want to overreact but I don't feel comfortable just leaving him to sleep. He is tired, and has some stomach pains (although this could be related to other issues too).

What should I do?

I would ring A&E or contact the DR as a second option, you are doing the right thing, he can't be left just to sleep with those numbers
does he have blood ketone strips
is he withit enough to do corrections
A&E may advise you to give a dose till the ambulance arrives

ring A&E or just an ambulance given his medical history
do you know what doses of insulin he has taken in the last 4 hrs?
