Hi Everyone
Just wondering if some of you may offer advice.
Keeping it simple, if I have a large bowl of Rice Krispies and plenty of milk I would inject 5 units of Novo Rapid, but after an hour or so me levels would be approx 18 poss 20 ! Then stay there fo an hour then start to drop.
I have tried injecting more and the same pattern happens but I go low later on, I have also tried injecting an hour before eating and it doesn’t seem to make much difference to my high readings. I have weighed my breakfast and if I inject the amount recommended I will always go low later.
The same happens at most meal times.
Thanks in advance

Have you done a basal test to check if basal insulin is right?

Have you checked how much sugar is in your breakfast because it may be quick acting sugar which will give you high BS levels as the insulin acts for about 4 hours which is why your blood comes down. You could try something else like weetabix or porridge as they are slow releasing carbs. It may be wise to have a word with your DNS to see what they think and you must inject your insulin as if you were on a pump they would be able to make changes which would help you.

I suspect the Rice Krispies may be very fast acting and not the best breakfast food to have. You need to avoid too many fast-acting carbs. I have a small portion of home made muesli, blueberries together with egg and bacon to follow. Normally best to inject a short while before a typical meal.

Technically, T1s can eat anything we want and cover it with insulin, but, in practice, hmm, maybe not so much. I'm not a low carber by any definition, but I do accept that some meals just really don't work for me. That might be the case with you and rice crispies. I'm disappointed if I go above 9. If I was going up to 18 I'd be saying that meal isn't for me.

Edit: Oops, sorry, when you mentioned Novo I assumed you were T1, I see from earlier posts you're T2. But what I said earlier still applies: some meals just don't work, no matter how much Novo you chuck at it.

Hi again, thanks for all your help, I’m not on the site a lot and was actually diagnosed type 1 after going privately for tests as the doctor advised I was type 2 ! So have been type 1 for 6/7 years, I am using freestyle libre now so testing a lot more than I used to, it is helping a lot and made me aware that I’m not as controlled as I thought ! I do pay for the sensors as I can’t get them on nhs yet.
I’ve also been diagnosed with celiac disease recently so my gluten free Rice Krispies seem to be a perfect breakfast for me.
Where do you find out if they are fast acting cabs or not ? Sorry for all the questions !! Ps is milk fast acting ?
