Does anybody take basal insulin (levemir for example)in two doses separately, one dose in the evening another one in the morning? Can we do that?
 
Good morning and welcome to the forum.
I take Levemir in split doses.
10 units at 5.30am and 10 units at 9 pm.
Interestingly I used to take it exactly 12 hours apart but have moved the evening dose to 9 pm in my ongoing mission to achieve better control.

Hi. Yes you can split. My DN started me on a single daily dose but as my own insulin continues to decay I've had to split the dose. You need to experiment with the split ratio and make sure thru testing that your BS doesn't go to low.
 
Thank you very much! It is very useful for me. Because, sometimes I wake up with high blood sugar or very low. Right now I take one dose before I go to sleep. I'm honestly afraid to fall asleep. I will see with my doctor to take split doses.

Thanks for advice, it means a lot to me. You helped me! I will try to expirement, I have to.
 
Levemir lasts about 18 hours hence the split dose but we are all different.
Levemir is recommended in general as you can change your dose daily and it reacts well to that whereas others can take days to make a difference.
There are different stronger background insulins that last 24 hours and beyond but your Doctor/specialist should advise.

Please feel free to keep asking questions as there are lots of people on this forum with years and years of experience.

I have a pump and have never tried levemir, but before I got my pump my basal insulin was lantus and I used to take that in 2 doses. I'd been on lantus for a good 6 years or so before I was told it doesn't last 24 hours and was advised to split it.

Until now, I was not try to split it, but it seems now that I have to. My doctor never told me that option. Do your sugur regulation is better with the pump?
