I find that I have to increase my levemir during the warm season and reduce it during winter. It increases by as much as 15%. All health professionals and other diabetics I have spoken to do not recognise this phenomenon. Changing my humalog does not help my control. I have been a diabetic for 38 years.

Does anyone else experience this need to increase their background insulin during the summer?

I'm the opposite, need slightly less basal in spring/summer than I do in the colder seasons of autumn & winter.

This subject comes up quite often on the forum, there's many members like yourself @CJa who need more insulin in the summer, it just goes to prove how different we all are.

btw, surprised your diabetes team haven't heard of his happening before.

The T1 I care for has the opposite effect - needs less basal as we move into summer. But yes, there definitely seems to be a difference :)

I seem to need more basal but less bolus. Especially if being outside and active. Weather changes everything
