Hello! I am someone who has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes for 19 years now. I am also doing a Masters in Psychology and am doing research into 'transitional care' and diabetes. My research question is: 'What are the factors that influence glycaemic control in young adults living with type-1 diabetes?'

I was hoping to see if anyone here would be interested in taking part in my study?

What is the study aiming to do?
This study is investigating the factors that might influence glycaemic control (the HBa1c test) in people living with type 1 diabetes who are between the ages of 16-25. This study aims to explore what might be going on in young people’s lives during this period, their experiences of clinical services, their understanding of their illness and how difficult they might have found being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.

By considering these issues we hope to be able to start to suggest how clinical services can be modified to best support young people in this age group.

Who can take part?
The study is looking for participants aged between 16-25 who have type 1 diabetes.

What will participants be asked to do?
If you chose to take part in this study you will be asked to fill out an anonymous online questionnaire that should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete. You will also be asked for some demographic and clinical data such as your last HbA1c, hospital admissions, and clinical attendance. All information collected during the course of the research will be kept strictly confidential and anonymous and will only be used for the purpose of this study.

If you have any questions you can email: [email protected]

The link to the questionnaire is: http://sdu-surveys.herts.ac.uk/transitionalcarestudy1

Hiya,

good question! But yes it is a standard verified questionnaire, the BSQ 8-b - the Body Shape questionnaire. Generally speaking, it is to determine whether this is something that the person answering the question thinks about/are affected by.

I hope that clarifies somewhat!

Thanks,

Claire

Hi Claire,

unfortunately I fall outside of the age group your are looking into but my friend runs a support group for 18-30 year old diabetics can I suggest you contact her here : http://www.circledrocks.co.uk/or via their fbook page here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Circle-D/231085460234981 I'm sure they may have some contacts for you

Obviously anyone else who fits the bill may wish to contact them as well, they're not a bad bunch ;)
