Air Bubbles

Hi, I’m new to the forum and kinda new to Diabetes. I’ve Latent AutoImmune Diabetes in Adults, Lada for short.

I’m using Novorapid and Tresiba and I’m recently finding I’m getting bubbles in the insulin and can’t get rid of them no matter how I tap the pen and express 2,3,4 or more units.

Is anyone else getting air bubbles? Do you have any techniques to get rid of these? I don’t want to throw the pens out but I don’t want to inject a bubble either!

I don't use insulin as a T2, however, I used to have a diabetic dog. He didn't use pens but syringes. Sometimes, we were supplied with cheaper ones when the proper ones were not available.

These cheaper ones were dreadful to fill and sometimes they filled with tiny bubbles that were impossible to get rid of. The continual pushing the insulin back into the vial just put bubbles into the vial and we quickly learned to discard that syringe. It might be worth getting in touch with your supplier, you might have a dodgy batch.

Hi @Gailt1 ,

This may seem like a silly question. Do you perform your "airshot" (needle prime.) skyward? (The correct way.)

@xfieldok . With your dog when pulling up. Did you draw up rough units of air to replace the insulin to be pulled out of the vial? The vacuume caused by just removing the insulin would suck in the rubber membrane on the vial..
