A quick one, what were those alcohol wipes called that you used to clean the top of the insulin vials, just can't recollect the name

Yes, I remember them, mine were in individual sachets and the smell was very strong and clinical. As for the name ? have you tried to Google the question? Good luck, but I'm sure someone will be along with the answer.

That's them, couldn't think what they were called, take it you can still buy them from pharmacy's CarbsRok?
Yes you can still buy them, you can also get them on prescription. Mind you at less than £2 for a box of 100 it saves the nhs a lot of money by buying yourself. If not on the shelf at pharmacy just ask them to order you some. There are other makes available but be warned they are not very good.

Thanks very much for the reply, I'll pop down to Boots and see if they stock them

Yep, they make a lot of different brands, but you can get them from a pharmacy for £2-3. I just got a box of 100 recently from my local pharmacy

Thanks everyone, ended up ordering them on-line as my local pharmacy didn't have any.

They can get them in for you the following day with no problem.

In the good old days, I used to get a bottle of surgical spirit and a pack of cotton wool balls on prescription

Right, none of them mentioned this, rang around a few as well.

Dab it on your wrists Nigel and there will be a flock of nurses after you

Don't think they've heard of alcohol wipes here.
I get prescribed chlorhexidine in diddy one use bottles (though I often make them two use) and gauze squares . The French system means I pay for the squares but not the chlorhexidine .The squares alone cost a lot more than alcohol wipes.
When I first started using the pump I was also prescribed a sterile plastic mat to put everything on during set changes. That disappeared off prescription very quickly.
It's strange how you become less fastidious over time.I have changed my cannula in the middle of a muddy foot path with no 'sterile' procedures. Not the best thing to do but I'm still here.

Yes remember it well, had a huge big roll of cotton wool and the surgical spirit came in a large brown medicine bottle. Used for keeping syringe and needle in it's blue custom made container, plus meant to swab skin before injection time.

Yep - remember the blue plastic case for syringe and insulin vials
