Type 1 Alcohol

Hi everyone,

What is everyone's view on alcohol and diabetes?

Is it a complete no go? Are some drinks a lot worse than others?

I rarely drink, and when I do I stick to a spirit with a diet mixer but I love a glass of wine

Spirits like whisky, gin, brandy and vodka are fine with a diet mixer, I like red wine which has a negligible effect on my bg levels.

Alcohol is fine in moderation but you need to know what effect it has on your bg levels and of course know your limit, as ever drink sensibly

agree with posters above -- red wine works best for me , white wine ( dry) is fine too

as are spirits and diet mixers

absolutely avoid alcopops . sweetened shots ( sourz etc ) and anything with real red bull in it

Thanks all. @himtoo @mahola @noblehead Phewwww I feel like I have permission now. Obviously within moderation, but I shall try a few variations and see how it affects me.

Not into sweet drinks anyway, 17 years of sugar free pop and unsweetened tea and coffee means I can't stand the taste of sugar in drinks!
