Alcohol

I like rum and coke, and vodka and bitter lemon - but have always had to be very cautious as I am affected very quickly and far more than 'normal' drinkers. All mixers are very low carb versions - I buy them in Lidl mostly.
If I am driving I don't have any alcohol at all.
I am making some ginger beer using brewers yeast, with a few spoonfuls of sugar to create a bit of alcohol and some fizz, but will sweeten it with various artificial sweeteners to see what amount and which brands are best. I used to enjoy my own brewed drinks but was never silly with the amount of alcohol - some brewers deliberately try to increase the alcohol in their products so they can't be enjoyed even with food.

Where do you buy low carb Baileys?? I love it but the ordinary stuff spikes my bs badly

On my Desmond type course someone asked what was recommended as a drink for diabetics. I don't think they meant alcoholic but the DN didn't hesitate and said Gin and Slimline Tonic.
Think some DN's are more than a little partial to a 'drop of the hard stuff' I used to work in the NHS in a trust that also covers the area where I live - I was highly amused to hear tales on the grapevine of the DN from the practice Im registered with, getting so drunk at the practice's staff Christmas meal that she had to vomit in her handbag!!!!
Its another reason I ensure my diabetes management stays under the hospital rather than the practice - I really wouldnt be able to keep a straight face! ( the other reason is the conversation with the gp who 'looks after' diabetics in the practice where she told me I needed to have my hba1c etc tested by the practice as well as the hospital. When i asked why, she said because theyve got a yellow flag next to them, - why the yellow flag? - because they are imprortant, Why are they important? - bcause theyve got a yellow flag this circular nonsense went on for a bit until I dropped into the conversation that as far as I was aware the yellow flag system indicated that the tests attracted an incentive payment for the gp. No more was said)
