Allergies

Hi, I have been type 2 for 2 years now and am on metformin (which due to good control I have managed to reduce (with docs approval). within the past year I have developed allergies to all sorts of things, soap powder, shampoo, certain brands of bread and certain types and brands of alcohol. I don't drink excessively but do enjoy the odd glass of wine and a vodka and tonic of a night.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

The Doc said that the Metformin could be causing this. I have good readings for glucose, liver etc and my doc is not worried, but my options of enjoying myself and being able to consume what I want (within reason) are becoming increasingly limited! I am seriously considering becoming teetotal.

I would appreciate any feedback

Thanks;)

Hi Diski,

How come nobody has seen this post before. Maybe you have always had these allergies but they have only become more apparant as you have become diabetic. For example maybe previously you never paid much attention to your health but since becoming diabetic you have been meticulous and so therefore noticed all these other allergies which weren't apparant before.

I'm relatively certain I'm allergic to milk.... also I've noticed some articles stating that allergies to milk might have contributed to diabetes but of course not enough evidence yet :-/ I've cut down on my dairy and my sinuses have cleared up, also I appear to have more energy (when my blood sugar levels are normal which is rare). Since having this energy I've now been able to force myself to do some sort of exercise. It's amazing what harm an allergy can do yet we just push it to the back of our minds as if it's nothing.

i have loads of allergies, have had for a few yrs, i have to use allergy tablets daily :(
