I think it would be wise to see yoir GP if you suspect your meds may be causing side effects. At the very least see a pharmacist.

Hi, I took these for a long time without any noticeable ill effects, this is unhelpful because we all react so differently to different medications, I suppose the only way to really tell is to stop taking them but you will lose any of the benefits to bg they have given you, you should do that under your doctors supervision really.

I have no personal experience of this drug. However, this is an advisory that the FDA have issued for it in America .
https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drugsafety/ucm486096.htm

It does not seem to be related to your problems, The FDA often has warnings that never seem to get to these shores in the UK, and NICE carries on regardless. The USA keeps a larger database similar to our Yellow Card scheme, and they seem to use it more actively than the NHS.

There is also an increased risk of pancreaitis noted by the FDA but not covered by NICE.

Alogliptin is contraindicated with Pioglitizone (ACTOS) since both drugs have an association with elevated risk of stroke or other CVE, but with low significance. As a personal survivor of 2 strokes while on ACTOS, I need to declare a bias in my viewpoint.
