The fact that I am finally ready to post is a big step forward for me. I was diagnosed as type 2 at
the end of January and it really was difficult for me emotionally. I have always been an anxious
person and this was the straw that fractured the camel’s spine. I spent several weeks almost
paralyzed by anxiety and depression. I am now on medication which the doctor feels is helping
me. I give more credit to the improved weather, getting used to the idea of a chronic illness and
making a real effort to get out both for exercise and to be with other people.

On diagnosis my A1C was 6.8% and I haven’t found it too difficult to get decent BS readings so I
am hoping my next test in the next week or so will show an improvement. If not, it will give the
doctor’s medicine a chance to prove itself.

At first, I could hardly bring myself to read the word ‘diabetes’ but when I could finally face up to
it I found this forum and just reading that other people were overcome with negative emotions
helped me to put my own in perspective.

I have just in the last week told a couple of friends about it. Before that I was trying to carry on
alone. So, the point of this long post is to say thank you to all for sharing your stories and problems. I hope I am ready to move
forward.

I am 63 and live in Canada.

Hi Moniker, I see you are still there with a sense of humour. It's a good feeling when the dust starts to settle.
Like you I have found a wealth of experience here

Hi and welcome. Although an HBa1C of 6.8 is higher than it should be it is not at a dangerous level. If you can focus on a low-carb diet it should help bring it down; also meds as appropriate. We all go thru different emotions when diagnosed. The thought that you are amongst a very large group of people sharing those emotions may help. You will come out the other side more knowledgeable about yourself and probably an improved lifestyle

Hi Welcome

Glad you posted, you write well and remember by posting you help others in your situation that aren't yet ready to post, so well done on all sides
