Hi everyone,

I am on the Animas Vibe pump and have always used the Contact Detach infusion sets but I have found these increasingly difficult to manage, especially the joining bit where you have to squeeze the sides of the plastic connection to detach. I have weakness in my hands and Arthritis too.

I have recently tried the Accuchek Rapid D Link and I was getting on alright with these until I had to change my cartridge cap on my pump and the luer lock on the Rapid D will NOT go through the new cartridge cap! There are small plastic wings on the Rapid D luer lock and these make it wider than the Contact Detach luer lock but I was able to get them through my old cartridge cap ok.

I prefer the steel sets because I like to see that the cannula has gone in alright.

Does anyone have any experience of any other steel cannula luer lock infusion sets please?

Hi

Well yes...I understand what you mean with joining the Contact Detach tubes together. I now just stick the set tube to a piece of clear plastic like an A4 page protector as I dont really want 2 pieces of adhesive stuck to my skin. I also use a cheap armband to slide over my arm to anchor the set tube so that I can unclip it ok.

Re .......the Rapid D.... the way to join the tube to the Animas cartridge cap is to get a good pair of sharp scissors and cut a diagonal line on the flexible wings of the tube to form what would end up looking like an ice cream cone shape and then that will enable you to attach the Rapid D tube to the cartridge cap ok. Must admit, the Rapid D is in some ways easier to undo where the 2 tubes join but is harder to disconnect from if the set is in the arm.

Hey Ho.....such is life lol

Thanks IHS I will try cutting the wings as you say. I can only think that my old cartridge cap rubber had softened and that was why I was able to get the luer lock through before. I mostly wear my set on my hip area now so the twist connection is accessible and easier for me to operate.

Thanks again.
