I`m always tired, too tired to eat proper at set times, too tired to test, too tired to give insulin :( It`s like a vicious circle and it won`t stop. Docs don`t do anything, what can they do? I am so fed up, just can`t cope any more. Also, sets hurt when I put them in, hurt when I give insulin. I'm bruised and sore all over.

Hi candi,

Bless you! i've been in this same position not long ago..

But i think if your posting on here then you must want something to change?!

I see that your on an insulin pump as your reffering to an infusion set.. have you thought about maybe going back to MDI? or trying a different set? smaller needle maybe?

It's a catch 22 i know..

i hated injections and i was as thin as a rake so that didnt help with them as i had very little fat to get stuck into!!

I know some people on pumps have insulin pens and needles as back up's if the pump fails so maybe if you have some long acting insulin spare you could at least have some to boost you up to improve you feeling tired and therefore less motivated to test your BG's etc.

You can't go on feeling like this as the less insulin you have the worse you'll feel and the more you downward spiral the harder it is to get back on your feet!

I know you day doctors can't do anything, and i felt the same way, then i met one nurse who is my nurse now who is an angel and knew i wasn't really doing anything to control my diabetes but just talked to me and encouraged me, but never once tried to make me do anything i felt i couldn't or wasn't ready for.

Do you have something to test for ketones? i strongly suggest you should, and if they re present then you need to get that sorted asap.

Try and make an appointment as quick as possible to talk all this through with someone in a specialist diabetes field to discuss all this with, you may find one small change could help alot.

Please test your BG's and have some insulin to get to a normal level before bed then you can wake up tomorrow maybe feeling a bit better candi.

Hiya

Thanks for your lovely reply.

Yeah, I go through phases of being really obsessed and have great numbers etc, then I just seem to get fed up and it all goes to pot. I get fed up with the hypos...

I do have breaks from my Pump and I'm thinking of going on a break once I get back from my 2 days away this week.

The pump is great but sometimes I just need to get off it, even though I think it makes me feel worse!

Nothing to test for ketones but I do pee alot in the night and it sometimes smells of ketones. How can you get rid of them except insulin and drinking water?

Don't get me wrong, I do test and I do have insulin. I just don't test that much and tend to guess what insulin to pump in by how I feel. Bad I know.

Like I say when I get back Wednesday I'm gonna call up my diabetes team and make an appt.

Thanks again, x

Biphasic insulin (twice daily) still exists so ask about Humalog Mix 25/75 for a while so that you can give yr tummy a rest from putting in sets and use yr arms, backside and legs instead. You can still use Humalog as a backup to the Mix as and when you want to eat more carb than you should. You only have to test about 4 times a day with it as well.

Not about in the UK as yet but Becton Dickinson have just launched the BD Microfine Nano 4mm insulin pen needle which is thinner than their 5mm one. It's to tackle compliance issues and should please many kids and adults.

Enjoy your break and think about twice daily insulin for a while. You might be a lot happier

Hi,

As far as i'm aware it's only insulin and water to flush them out i think.

Maybe it would help if you just stuck to carb-free or low carb meals until you can be sure you don't have them..

Nobody is perfect with diabetes and i'll certainly be the first to admit that!!

As my nan would say there's no point crying over spilt milk, so aslong as you do get back on track then the past is the past there is no point worrying bout yesterday :)

It my be worth while you doing a refresher Dafne course if you have already, or if you haven't definately give it a go!

It may help reduce your hypo's! i think that was a factor for me too!

I hope you get everything sorted when you get back and things get better for you candi :)
