always tired

For a Type 2 and before you get your BG under control - definitely normal.

And my broken record standard answer is to have your Vitamin D, B12, iron and thyroid levels checked. Fatigue can be related to all or any of those factors.

i only got told last week i have it i have been really scared about my tiredness

Hi Saralou, It would be a good idea to mention your concern to your GP, they will more than likely get your levels checked as Indi says. If they are normal then once your blood sugars come down the tiredness will get less, don't over do things whilst you are tired that won't help.

If you are newly diagnosed then your blood sugar is probably high,if so this can cause tiredness

Vitamin D. I take 5000IU per day during the dark months. Sometimes a bit more.

There are several causes of tiredness
  1. High blood sugar levels
  2. Vitamin D deficiency
  3. Vitamin B12 defciency
  4. Iron deficiency anaemia
  5. Underactive thyroid
  6. Depression
As you have posted in the newly diagnosed section, then my guess would be high blood sugar levels, so if it continues once you have brought your levels down, then I would suggest going back to your GP to get tested for numbers 2 -4, as with our modern lifestyles and bad weather we don't get enough Vitamin D and being a woman anaemia is a possibility.

:grumpy: cor blimey, my "favorite" topic, tiredness, lol.
Like other posters have mentioned, there could be a multitude of reasons for fatigue, some related, some not, to diabetes, but,, I am starting to get some energy back now that my BG numbers are more stable.

I can you that the times that I am able to get 8+ hours of (uninterrupted) sleep I also feel much better. Sleep is the #1 restorative, healing function, and lack of it can actually cause all kinds of problems, including diabetes.

The melatonin, serotonin, dopamine, adrenal and insulin hormones all have to work in harmony, and when they don't, we get diseases like IBD and diabetes. I've read some convincing research on this and I tend to believe it.
Solid sleep is a wonderful thing.:smug:

Around the time I was diagnosed with T2 DB I could fall asleep standing up, especially after meals. In general esp. for those of us in early healing stages of DB I think its a good idea to rest, relax and get as much sleep as possible. Of course, this mode will eventually have to be balanced more with physical activity once you start feeling better and have more energy. :)
