Hi, Anyone out there on Rivastigmine for Alzheimers? My husband is and we're getting some v high BGs. 18.7 half an hour ago for no apparent reason? Anyone?

Hi,

My mum has Alzheimers. But is non diabetic.
occasionally she will repeatedly ask the same stress bassed questions?

Could your husband's BG rise correspond with something simalar..

Granted I don't test my mum's BS.
I'm thinking stress angle of this anomaly causing liver dump of glycogen...
Just a thought.

Hello chrism28 apparently some people say the drug can rise blood sugars and some say it doesn't so not really sure all you can do is keep testing his blood and it still stays high I would ask his doctor for advice good luck with everything.

Thanks for the reply Jaylee, he's early stage so I don't think what you're suggesting applies atm. Good thought tho.

Please let it not be the drug because he's definitely been sharper mentally since starting it.

Have a look at this link. This drugs website lists all known side effects of all drugs, and is used by the medical profession. I can't see any warning about blood sugar levels, and if any were reported they would be on there.

I hope you can get to the bottom of it. Could he be harbouring a virus that his body is busy fighting but hasn't yet caused noticeable symptoms? Even a cold can cause havoc with BS levels.

He says he feels fine. BG very raised this morning 18.7 after a normal breakfast that wouldn't usually cause a spike but was 2 hours after first higher dose of rivastigmine. Tonight 12.7 2 hours after taking drug and normal dinner same thing. Let's hope it doesn't happen again tomorrow.
