One more thing I've descovered over the years. Drinking vodka and red bull has amazing results on my sugar levels. I could drink my socks off and wake up with a nice 5.5 . I'm hoping to get it onto the prescribed list

I do 1 unit for every 3mmol, for example if I was 15 I would do 3 units to take me down to 7.0

I couldn't do that ( I was 1 unit to bring me down by 3) but that would plummet me, so now it's 1 unit to bring me down by 3 1/2, but even with that dose, I still have to be very careful, sensitive to insulin my DSN says.

I've found this post really helpful, as I've always controlled my high bloods with corrective doses (although sometimes I've gone a bit overboard and had a massive crash as a result)

my question is how long should the novorapid typically take before you see the effects of the corrective dose?

and how do you best calculate a corrective dose? sorry if these seem like obvious questions

It's about 30 - 45 mins for me. Calculating the corrective dose is trial and error. Like others here, for me 1 unit drops me by 3mmol (almost like clockwork, it's very accurate!).

so I woke up with high of 13.9 and I injected 7 units of insulin and an hour later I'm still 12.4? wow it feels like my insulin sensitivity is very low! :/

It depends. You can always inject intramuscularly to get a faster action. I find that it tends to get the insulin working inside 10 mins. Full effect still takes a couple of hours, but you feel it sooner.
