Hi all,

Im 38 and have had t2 for a number of years

A few years ago i was 155Kg! now 104.
I do 2 hours running/rowing/cycling swimming in the gym everyday, I consider i have a good (low carb - and strictly no sugar) diet.
I am no longer on metformin which i came off in oct last year when my hba1c was 37, even then i was skipping taking it now and again.

Recently had shakyness/trembling hands possibly tingly all over, not just hands/feet I was worried this might be too much sugar, but i have all feeling and sensations, foot pulse etc could my blood sugar be low? I dont get sweaty or any other oddities though.

Did you test your blood sugar when you were experiencing these symptoms?

You say you've stopped taking metformin. Are you on any diabetic medication? If you aren't on any diabetic medication you are at no risk of low blood sugar more than anyone else on the street.

Hi,

No i have never tested blood beyond my regular checks, looking to get a meter though, I monitor BP which was too high, and i was on a pill for that which i have been off for a while as i started getting low bp readings (although felt fine) so no medication other than a simvastatin i've been on forever - although my last cholesterol reading was 3.1

If these symptoms have gone on for over a week you may want to consider see your GP? If you had a meter then you could have tested BG. If you can't get into see a GP for some time as is usually the case these days you could reduce the exercise a bit to be on the safe side until you can rule out any diabetes issue or anything else for that matter

Have a read of this site wwwdotspacedocdotcom or PM me..

Hmm food for thought, I looked at other sites out of interest, to get some differing opinions.
I am on 20mg a day, I cant say i have experienced muscle pain etc, well i get some 'aches and pains' now and again, but then i have been reversing a fairly sedentary lifestyle the past few years.
I average about 3kg weight loss a month, a few more weeks and I will be <100Kg which makes my BMI overweight and not obese, which was my first real target.

Yes I was putting that URL up for discussion. The deal is that in the UK "Big Pharma" is all about pushing statins as much as possible. One is probably better off with lots of exercise and or Kimchee / Sauerkraut to lower the wrong stuff out of one's blood than taking a statin. I've heard way too much anecdotal stories about nasty side effects of long term use of statins . In fact my friend whose husband died of diabetic complications, told me of her husbands dementia who was 53 at time of passing. My mother suffered from dementia too before she passed at 89 and had been on statins for over 12 years.

OP,

Firsrly kudos for the weight loss. A third of your body weight in some accomplishment.

In your position I would consider buying a BG meter. They are relatively cheap, and you really cant have too much information regarding your health.

Lastly see your GP.

I thought I would give an update, I started eating a few more leafy greens, and taking a a-z vitamin tablet, and having smaller snacks through the day, tingling has stopped, had some blood test results back today and my HBA1c is now 36 down from 37 previously, now this is the first test without metformin so perhaps gone too far? Weight is now just over 100 kg!

Hi Deuteronomy.

When you speculate you may have gone too far, do you mean too low with your HbA1c?

If that's what you mean, firstly I would say 36/37 is not materially different. Like anything expressed on a scale, for all we know you could have been almost 36 before, or almost 37 now (say 36.7 rounded up or today 36.4 rounded down, if you understand what I mean).

To be honest, provided you feel well and happy enough with life now, I would urge you to celebrate more than be concerned about a tight HbA1c.

My own HbA1c is reflected in my signature below, and I'm happy to run at 31. It's pretty consistent, and seems almost like my "zone" these days.

If you mean something else, could you perhaps expand so that we might understand better?
