I know I can’t have hypos but am I right in thinking 4.0 is getting too low?

Been running low all week, not really getting higher than 6 something.
Been feeling really good, appetite down and mood much better.

Eating huge breakfast and some days then didn’t eat till late afternoon because I just wasn’t hungry, even if levels were high 4s.

Been noticing that each day they are going a little bit lower, and today I’ve hit the 4.0.

My tablets do cause low blood sugar but not hypos.

Not added carbs all week, just carbs in food and even then low.

The one thing I’m aware of is when I start getting tetchy. If I’m teaching and I suddenly feel like they are annoying the hell out of me I eat something, because that’s been when I’m in the 4s. Even if just a pepperami.

I’ve eaten just a little something and waited for things to go up so like I said mostly hitting 5s.

But today hit 4.0. Wasn’t hungry, not many symptoms in that I felt ok. But tired but I’d been mooching and having hair cut so figured it was that. Only on way home when I had phone call and was just a little bit arsey that I thought, oooh that’s not good.

So is 4.0 getting a bit too low?

For me I'd say that's exactly what you should be aiming for. It may feel a bit odd the first few times but as your body acclimatises to where "normals" are in terms of blood sugar then you should feel fine. If you are getting such good results I'd consider going back to the doc to talk about reducing the meds. Then you can be diet only and not have to worry about side effects.

With blood glucose levels like that (congratulations) I would be asking my doc or nurse for a trial removal of your Forxiga.

I would be very surprised if they still think you need it.

My one year anniversary is 14 Aug so my hba1c will be done then.

My last visit in April she said when that goes to normal levels we can come off and trial it.

She won’t do anything until that comes back in normal range.

Really?
What about driving is that still ok?

I get so blooming confused with the driving bit.

Plus I do get very arsey and that’s not fair in my pupils or business!

The only thing is I’m this because I’m basically not eating carbs.

If I eat something I shouldn’t I’ll still
Spike, so doesn’t that mean I’ll still be diabetic?

Why wait for another 3 months? Give the surgery a ring now. They may be able to do a telephone appointment and sort things out quickly.

If you want to eliminate quite a chunk of your angst, just say ‘I want to come off this drug because it affects my work, my driving and my hydration levels - and my blood glucose levels are in the 4s. That is normal, isn’t it?’.

I would say that you certainly need to be vigilant if you’re flirting with ~4mmol/L whilst using fairly powerful diabetes drugs.

Um... sorry if these seem like obvious answers, but
1. Don’t eat something you ‘shouldn’t’ if you don’t want to have raised blood glucose.
And
2. Normal blood glucose levels don’t turn you into a non diabetic.

But my hba1c may not be.

I don’t want to come off too early and then muck it all up and get back to where I was months ago.

And when I first got diagnosed I went no carb and hit these levels and got told I had to eat carbs to make sure I didn’t go too low.

Then you have two options: increase carbohydrate to counter your current medication, or risk potentially having problems with hypoglycaemia. Neither of these two choices are recommended.

Being told to adjust your diet to match your medications hardly seems like responsible advice.

If I were you I’d be getting pretty forthright with my doctor/nurse if they tried that one on me.

How many people who aren't taking any medication that you know test their blood sugar before driving?
Once you come off the meds you'll be like everyone else.

Well I didn’t and I ended up with diabetes

Sorry I don’t really get what you are saying.

@Cana - I am often at 4.3- 4.6 after eating, so very often running under 4. I'm well, happy, content and drive as and when I want to or need to.

Please don't get hung up on small numbers. Many people without diabetes run low the whole time, but they never really know, because they don't test.

Does your Doc provide your meter and test strips?

She does. Although I just picked them up today (to be fair only ordered couple weeks ago and pressed wrong button) I was told this is last authorised repeat. Whatever that means. Hopefully they will continue to supply

My interpretation of your statement would be that the inclusion of your test strips expires after this last authorised repeat.

At my surgery (although I have extremely limited experience of repeat prescriptions)I would have to speak with whoever prescribes that item, for them to agree to continue to provide it. Otherwise it'd be treated like a fixed term subscription and expire.

Oh so I just need to talk to dr and ask her to continue.

For goodness sake. I am in a mission to not go anywhere near the dr until August fir my anniversary bloods. It will be the longest time since diagnosis. I’m sick of keeping going there

My last visit was 25/4 so I’m heading fir my month

To be honest, I'd handle that particular query via a telephone conversation. My GP does telephone consultations for issues not requiring an examination. It works well.
