Well, hello again folks - have been AWOL for quite a while; am delighted to see that this "specialist" thread is still going strong! ;) Avos have been off my menu for ages now, owing to the poor quality of fruits that were on offer in my little corner of the globe. Those I last purchased, a few months back, were either rock hard, ripen-at-home that never ripened, or were over-ripe, or went bad before they ripened! Not appetising in the least. A week or so ago I had a trial run and bought a couple because they looked and felt ok, almost ready for eating. As it turned out the first one I tried tasted 'dry' and yucky - ended up throwing it out! The second one was equally bad so that went in the bin too. So that was money down the drain (or rather, in the bin). Undeterred, I have today ventured into the world of avos once again because they were on 'special' in my local Sainsbury's and they looked really good, smooth, light green skins, firm but not too firm, just the right amount of "give" - I didn't realise how much I had missed my daily avo. I now have 2 packs of 2 in the hope that quality and taste is equal to the anticipation. These are South African "fuerte" variety (whereas the others were hass) so I live in hope that these will be fine. Not broken into one yet; that will come at lunch tomorrow. Can only pray that my assessment, such as it was, proves correct and these might just be worth the expenditure! In which case, they're back on the menu! ..... well, at least until supplies run out at Sainsbury's, I guess.
