Americans recognise that things have to change in the grocery aisle.

This survey was conducted in America and I reckon that a similar survey conducted here would yield similar results.

I think the majority of us would agree that we only became more conscious of what we were eating when we were diagnosed.

I think you would find a survey in this country would produce similar results. Although I think we all to often blame food companies for the food we consume, but people easily forget there is a choice, you either eat it or you don't, there are healthier alternatives available should we take the time to look, and nothing beats making food from scratch.

Diabetes, like any other condition focusses the mind to the content of foods we eat. Most of us, within reason didn't give to much thought about what we ate prior to diabetes, and if one good thing comes from having diabetes, is the fact that we are more aware of what we are throwing down our necks on a daily bases.

We already have nutrient labelling on packaged foods. Pity it's mostly about low fat.
I am in contact with a number od American women and I know there's a strong movement by the concerned ones, towards buying food at farmer's Markets. and some are now asking for ethically produced meat and traceability in food.
Much of that we have.
America may see itself as the World's leader in everything, but their food production is way behind ours. Their meat is high in antibiotics and I have found some of their fresh produce nice looking, but tasteless. I did hear a programme about Detroit the other day. Apparently since the car factories are mostly closed down, the population has fallen by about two thirds. Much of the property is empty and people have started to farm the unoccupied land. The major supermarket chains having left town. It would be interesting to find if The poor of Detroit are the healthiest Americans.
