Hello all!
I was diagnosed with T1 on October 16, 2008. I am currently on an insulin pump and have an A1C of 5.5. I thank God that I have been able to keep my diabetes under control, although it is still a struggle every day, as you all know quite well.
My husband and I are moving to England at the end of August for him to pursue his PhD at the University of Durham. I am nervous and excited about this life change. I am quite nervous about the change in health care from what I am used to. I started rationing my diabetes supplies several months ago because I am scared that I won't be able to see a doctor in time to get my prescriptions filled. I'm also worried that the doctor chosen for me will not allow me to continue the care that I like and am used to, namely my pump. Is that irrational?
Any advice for first steps regarding health care when we make our move? I know I have to see a GP first and then get a NHS number.
Thanks, and I look forward to being a part of this community.
