Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone can other any advice if they have been in a similar situation. I'm type 1 with multiple complications, one being Chacot foot in my left foot, i have now had two operations and neither have fused the bones together, this has been over 5 years, I have been told that only two options remain, one is another operation which to be honest I'm not optimistic about due to the other failures, the other is an amputation which seems extreme but i do feel that is my be my only option to really put some closure and to move on with what i enjoy, yes it will be a inconvenience but in the long term there is a lot that can done these days. I have consider work, which have been very patient and are very understanding.

Any thoughts would be appreciated, thank you for your time.

I'm so sorry, sounds like you have some very hard decisions to make.
I have no idea which road I would choose in your situation. I guess the best option not only depends on clinical facts but also a lot on personality, your thoughts about putting closure and moving on definitely make sense to me.

Tagging @Ushthetaff for you, who seems a pretty optimistic guy and who has experience with amputation.

Wish you all the best!

I had my leg amputated below the knee 8 years ago following a toe removal ,due to poor circulation,
knew I was going to lose toe , then they talked about losing my foot and then possibly losing my leg I told the consultant that if my toe didn’t fix it to remove my leg not bother with the foot , probably the best decision I made , I was in pain prior to my amputation not any mor w, yes it’s a horrible thought to lose parts of your body but prosthetics these days make it much easier , sure its a lot to get use to both physically and mentally but from a personal point of view I kept positive and positive things happened, I’m not sure if it’s just your foot that you’re having thoughts about amputating , as I’m not sure what prosthetic foots are like but legs are amazing these days , the service I get is amazing the more you try to do the more get out of it , to Be honest I don’t really remember having two legs any more , good luck with whatever road you eventually find yourself on
please feel free to message me if you need any more info

Hi, thank you for your information, it'll be a below the knee amputation, if i go ahead which i almost there with that decision, as don't really want another failed operation only to be told another year down the line that i now need an amputation. Just want closure and to move on which i know i can do, whilst thinking positive like you say.

Well its sounds like your mentally in a place of acceptance , which I can say is the hardest thing to achieve ! The rest is just mechanics and that I think you will manage without much problem ., personally I used the theory this isnt going to stop me doing what I want to and it hasn’t , granted I needed to adjust certain things but adjust I did, prosthetics these days are developing all the time and are easy to get on with ,
on the plus side I’ve found I can do a great pirate on a fancy dress evening lol ,
as previously stated free to message me if you have any concerns ,
