I was diagnosed Type 2 in March with an HbA1C of 49. I had my first follow up blood tests yesterday and I've been given the results today pre clinic next Monday. My HbA1C is now 39. Cholesterol 3.0 and hdl is 1.1 At today's weigh in I've gone from 78kg in that period to 64kg as of today. Have I done well? Is it a massive improvement and achievement? Is there room for complacency? If anyone has the answers I would be very grateful to know. Thank you. :)

i think you,ve done well to lose 10kg
your results are dropping

Thank you but I truly don't. I had my first appointment in late March and the Desmond Course. I was terrified and got on with it the best I could. I know they're an improvement but if I knew to what degree I wouldn't have asked.

Those results are amazing. You have taken your diabetic levels down to non-diabetic levels. What more could you do? Your cholesterol is low and your weight loss outstanding. Very well done.

Thank you Bluetit1802. I remember you being kind to me before and it's much appreciated. I didn't make this post to get praise, I made it because I genuinely don't understand the results. I probably appear very anxious and I put my hands up to that being true. I'm fighting the diabetes along with other conditions and I'm terrified of it. I just wanted to know that's all so thank you again for your kind words.

Your results are amazing, but as you ask, I would say there is no room for complacency.

How close are you to a healthy weight/BMI, and what do your home testing numbers generally run at?

Hi. I thought it might be the case that I mustn't be complacent. My BMI is now 25.7 and my glucose levels seem to have been a lot lower just this last week. This morning fasting 5.5 and no other results above 6.5. I test as advised by a senior consultant endocrinologist who's looking after me for my thyroid so I test every day fasting then before lunch one day, before dinner the next day and before bed the next.

if you are buying your own, I would check 2 hr after the meal 6 times a week and morning fast twice and before tea twice, 10 strips a week. any results that aren't right, I would then focus on the next few days with extra strips to see if I could detect anything..same or less number of strips but more information

They give me whatever I ask for but I know there's been quite a few letters between my GP and Consultant because I've had copies of them. I'll look at the link thanks :)

Ahhhh that's interesting because I was having coffee every morning with milk and sweeteners but this last week I've gone onto black tea with sweeteners and it's during this time that I've had better levels. I think milk is the culprit so I'm not going to have it again. I do a spreadsheet with a graph too. What I don't really know is am I non diabetic now or just in a good phase?

It's obviously your choice how you continue, but your BMI is still a tiny bit higher than ideal. Although, i do appreciate BMI isn't everything, it's interesting to read Professor Taylor's views on weight loss, visceral fat and so on.

After my own first review, my HbA1C and BMI had both improved significantly, but I continued with my efforts, and reduced my weight a bit further. My HbA1C has also trimmed a bit further, and I am now able to tolerate additional carbs. I test my fasting level every morning, and before and after my main meal, or if I am trying something new (or feel off). I'm very happy, as you can imagine.

In your shoes, I'd have a decent think about my ongoing strategy. I would read, or re-read Professor Taylor's information on reversing T2. Not with a view to undertaking the Newcastle Diet, but to reinforce the importance of weight loss and portion control. Obviously, testing continues to be important.

Again, well done, but I feel (for me at least) that the hard bit is what's happening now. I may have reached an important juncture of my journey with T2, but to ever believe I have arrived would be foolhardy.

Yes. I still want to lose another stone because I know that will be better for me. I've heard something mentioned about Newcastle but I've no idea what it is. I organise my diet with the My fitness pal and allow myself the lowest they allow you of 1200 calories. I usually only eat about 700 of them and I'm not hungry. Earlier I had to come here and ask for help because I was very hungry and eating almost nothing. It was then that I discovered from advice that I was doing it all wrong. Now I'm on the right track I know I can lose the other stone easily..... but, does the day ever arrive when we're actually non diabetic, diabetes free and fully fixed.

what you would need to do is a sugar drink test, if you pass that you are well into remission, if you fail it you are diet controlled

Oh... that horrible thing I've heard about where you have to drink something so sweet that it makes you feel sick? I'd hate to do that. Is that the only way?
