An obvious newbie question re treats

Hi, I'm really really new to all this, although I've been following a very low carb/low sugar/low calorie diet for the last 3 weeks since my bloods were done; my actual doctor appointment is next week.

Anyhoo... I've already lost a stone and a half by eating this new healthy way and doing more exercise and I'm actually really getting into it! I've cut out processed food - everything I'm eating is fresh, prepared from scratch and is all lean protein, fish, veg etc... (once the carbs & sugar and processed stuff is out your system - everything fresh tastes so amazing!) - I'm feeling FANTASTIC, have loads more energy, and have decided to embrace this condition and use it as the perfect excuse to get the healthiest I've ever been. I'm actually really enjoying learning how to cook new things and finding new flavours to make my new healthy diet more varied and interesting.

I am well aware that this isn't just a "diet" - this is for me a complete lifestyle change, it's forever and I'm excited about being a trimmer, healthier me for years to come! However, I just wanted to ask what the deal is with "treats" - and by that I mean if I'm out for dinner for someone's birthday, or if it's Christmas or whatever... I'm not meaning go crazy - not at all - but say I wanted to "allow" myself a couple of roasties with my meal at xmas, or the OCCASIONAL dessert... is that okay? I was just thinking today that I was meant to be going out for a rather posh meal for my 40th later this year... I don't want to be sitting in some fabulous restaurant that we've had booked for months and not be able to order a bit of a treat. I'm committed to maintaining my healthy low carb/low cal/low sugar diet the majority of the time and it's not even that restrictive - I'm finding all kinds of delicious things to eat, and I don't want to treat myself all the time - I actually don't want to stray much at all - but y'know - now and again, is the very occasional carby treat ok? Or even the occasional sweet treat?

Sorry - I'm aware this is probably quite a basic/elementary question but while I'm actually loving my new diet, I just wanted to know the deal with the occasional treat. Thanks! :D

I find that if I get a pang for something then it is better to give in to it, get over it and get on with the healthy stuff next day. The danger of this attitude is if you do it more and more often. If you set a "Never Exceed" target it might help ........like one treat a week max for example.

Another problem is if you become a diabetes bore. At your birthday don't even mention the diabetes. Even go as far as putting some unhealthy things on your plate. You don't have to eat them all.

Recently the young daughter of a friend of mine presented me with a mince tart. All flour and sugar. She was very proud of it since she had made some at school and was feeling good about it. I just ate it and told her how nice it was. Well, what was I supposed to do if not that.

I still have roasties, but I roast, carrots, pumpkin, sweet potato, onion garlic with a little olive oil and sage, rosemary and thyme in the air fryer :D

I have found that when you cut out sugar and sweet things and then go to have them again they seem really sweet (sugar rush straight to the head LOL)

Good luck, congrats on the weight loss and enjoy your birthday!
