Analogues

Guys

I want some advice regarding analogue insulins. I have been on Levemir and Lantus and I genuinely feel both make me feel tired, headachey, joint ache, confusion, dizziness and general all over achey and weak. (Obviously that could be down to the Vitamin D Deficiency, the underactrive Thyroid and so on but I am assured that both of these are now adequately under control.)

I just wanted to enquire whether there is any ongoing evidence that issues with analogues might account for how rubbish I am feeling but I just wanted to ask you guys a few questions:

What alternatives are there to Analogues - Human/Porcine?! What actual brands of insulin would be available to me if I wanted to steer clear of Analogues?! I want a regime that still offers me a degree of control without the potential side affects of the Analogues - I'm not saying they are defo to blame but I guess it won't hurt trying.

I have tried Porcine Insulins in the past but I have to say I was having to take shots of insulin far too often to make them a long term viable solution for me.

Thanks

Dan

Hi,

Have you had a look at this site?

http://www.iddt.org/

It has lots of information on there about alternatives to analogues. They apparently are helpful if you call them as well.

I'm on analogues and don't seem to have too much trouble with them, but as with everything diabetes related I'm a bit distrustful of the generic "here's the new thing it's brilliant" approach that the dear old NHS seems to swallow from the drug companies; who are after all only in the business of the 'new thing' - because patents expire quickly and so do their margins if they don't come up with new products...

The IDDT is a good place to start.

You could ask your DSN to try you on Insulatard (Human insulin) which I was using prior to lantus, it doesn't last as long as levemir/lantus so you would need to inject it twice a day.
