Analysing blood results

High blood sugars, feeling alone with diabetes
Does anyone know how is the best way to analysis your blood results using a spreadsheet?

Being type 1 I test my blood frequently throughout the day and have done for over 20 years. However, I manage my diabetes “reactively” i.e. I do not “predict” what to do next based on past results/evidence.

I have a One Touch Ultra 2 and also a One Touch Ultra Smart. I know that there is software available these meters but as I use a Mac the software is not compatible. Also from what I have read, the software isn’t too god anyway.

I have recently started to log my results manually in a MS Excel spreadsheet. I can set the file up to automatically return results for the;
· Highest reading
· Lowest reading
· Average reading
· Standard deviation
· Percentage of results above, below, and within expected limits.
· I also show my insulin intake

What I would like to be able to graphically represent;
· Results for any given time window (currently I have the options of B’fast, Lunch, Even’g, Bed)
· Display the results for any given date range i.e from the 03/09 to 07/09, or every Monday, and so on

If I can show in the graph my insulin intake I can begin to see if any patterns are developing. I know that this isn’t the one stop answer as other things affect readings; time of injection, time to eat after, type and amount of food taken, physical activity and so on but it’s a start to better management.

Do other type 1 diabetics use an Excel spreadsheet to analyse their readings and if so do you have any advise that you could share?

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.
