Anger issues

Hi folks,
I'm new to the forum, not new to diabetes. I had gestational diabetes and the disease is in the family, so it wasn't a surprise when my blood sugars started to rise. What has kicked me in the teeth is the fact that I am ANGRY all the time, particularly when my sugar is high! I scream. I yell. I throw things around. For god's sake, what can I do about it? I never used to be a complete psycho. HELP!
Jem

Two words...

GREEN TEA.

The green leaves can calm the storm.
Drink 2 cups in succession , avoid the tetley and decaf versions, clipper or tescos own are good.
Then see how you feel.

Well yep that would work. But its not good for you.

Dr stuarts do a range of potent teas. The liver detox one tastes FOUL but wow does it work.
(I had a body scan and was diagnosed with a fatty liver despite my slender frame).
They do a full range at holland and Barrett and i would try any of his that's relaxing.
Have a read of this:

Hi, Jem :)

Sounds as though you have tried many things to sort your anger.

Could there be something extra apart from the obvious your are already taking that may aggravate this problem.

Sounds stupid but what starts to make your blood sugar high.

There could also be someone or something in your surroundings that brings it on.

You might need a change or break, are you angry when you visit or even go shopping etc;

hope you find something soon

Roy. :)

Hi Roy,
Well I know it is brought on by stress and tiredness too - trouble is everything seems to make me stressed - not enough sleep, the kids messy rooms, my nightmare job, endless pressure, trying to do too much... and yes, I do get angry when I go shopping or something. I ended up kicking the supermarket self checkout machine the other day because it was just too **** frustrating.

What makes my sugar high? Well, eating I guess, and cortisol, which I'm sure I produce in copious amounts. It doesn't take much to get sugar up to 10 or 13, and that's enough to send me psycho. :( Oh, and joy, getting hungry makes me psycho too. :?

I second the green tea - I'm a new person when I'm on that, I usually have a cup first thing in the morning before all hell breaks loose at work.

Have you ever tried Kalms tablets, I take them for a few weeks during times of stress and find they keep me nice and mellow to get through it and then I ween myself off them after a few weeks.

The only other thing I could suggest is to see if you could get any help at work or home to take some of the pressure/stress off you?

Another shameless plug for a book with a lot of plausible, pseudo-scientific mumbo-jumbo! I haven't read the book, but there are some very long reviews on the American Amazon site: it seems that the "cure" for diabetes is to eat loads of dark green vegetables with meat, eggs and nuts! Well, Dr Atkins got there first, and those of us on low carb regimes are already there; so save some cash and follow the advice on the low carb threads in this forum.

Hi,Jem :)

I am going to zoom into this "nightmare job" that you have.

Your are working to keep those lovely children happy so they can mess up their rooms, The money you earn is spent in those shops for them and not on yourself.

Your a Angel. Something has got to give.

The Idea of pleasant job would be for you have a a change away from home problems and of coarse reasons to make ends meet.

However it must not be a "nightmare job"

What is this so called Job.

There has got to be a better way to sort this out.

Roy. :)

Aah, the nightmare job is teaching maths. I've been trying to get out of it for a while, but it seems difficult to get anything else. I did get a part time job doing something else for about a year (2011-2012), but we couldn't live on it so I had to go back to teaching or the house was going to fall apart due to neglect and we weren't going to have any heating for the winter! The workload in teaching means a 50-60 hour week is quite realistic. I'm sure you all know someone who is a teacher, so I won't whinge on!

I've thought about green tea, and I just don't think I'm going to go there. I'm not a great fan of herbal teas anyway, and somehow forcing myself to down something I don't want to is not going to make me less stressed. As for any diet that starts with the word 'miracle', I tend to switch off. No such thing, sorry.

There, sorry for the totally negative post! I'm actually not too angry today, but have pains in my tummy thinking about how much work I have to do before tomorrow. .... I think I may have found the root cause here.

:o)

Jem, :)

Now that I know you teach maths. All I can say is thanks.

You are underpaid, overworked and completely stressed out.

It is people like you that have made my children grow into responsible adults which makes me so proud.

I was right you are a Angel that deserves much more than the cr*p you put up with.

Good luck with the green tea.

Roy, :)

Thanks 1973, I see you know what teaching is like! What exactly is a nanoaquarium?

Sharon - I am so happy it's not just me too. Tell me if the tea works. I might yet be persuaded to drink some!

Thanks Roy, although I don't feel much like an angel, more like a seething volcano, ready to blow and do students damage when they can't follow instructions!

Went to bed for an hour when I got in. It helped. Can now work until midnight productively. Only three more lessons to sort out.

I know how you feel. Sometimes my stress levels get so high I feel like my heart could stop. I use camomile tea and if I get a few minutes I sit on the edge of my bed, close my eyes and just breath slowly and deeply for about 10 breaths. I start off feeling stressed but by the time I'm finished I feel amazingly calm. The problem is trying to get a few minutes to myself. That can actually cause more stress! I was told by diabetes nurse that hiyj bs can cause irritability and anger. Am now convinced that there is no area of life that diabetes doesn't cast its shadow over. It is difficult to reign in stress levels but I hope deep breathing helps.
