Hello to everyone
I've just registered and would like some independent advice about a serious problem I have.
First off a little about myself. I am 47 and have been insulin dependent since being diagnosed 29 years ago. I have a lot of little diabetic problems that come with being diabetic that long, but I also have one major one.
I have just had some scans done and they showed disease in both legs, much worse in the left one. My Vascular consultant recommends that I have balloon angioplasty, this will enable me to walk without the incredible pain that I now have when I try to walk. The problem is my diabetic consultant says that he will not give his OK to this as the risk involved is far too great, one little accident and I could actually lose my leg. I tried to explain that as I can't really use my leg for much at the moment I think it is worth the risk.
Any advice would be most welcome.

Well, it's not your diabetes consultant who has to live in pain or live without the leg, it's YOU.

Can you get more information on the risks/benefits of the operation?

Unfortunately I don't know anyone who has had the same thing done in the legs.
