DISHONESTY,
Hi all,
Has anyone experianced weight gain after being switched to Animal insulin from Analogue or vice versa ??

Hi Claudimi,
I've not been on here for a few days, but just been skimming through your posts and gather you're having probs on analogue insulin.
I read that you're one of the many who were switched from animal insulin to synthetic human insulin in the 80s. I wasn't diagnosed till '89 and by then it was standard practice to put patients on "human"LOL insulin! Likewise these days , newly diagnosed patients know nothing but Lantus and Levemir and under the misconception that they are on insulin :(
I don't know anyone, me included, who's put on weight since changing to Animal insulin from awful analogues, but I can assure you there's plenty of anecdotal evidence to suggest that Lantus can cause weight gain. I piled on the pounds on it, looked bloated and felt like ****; I won't go on, but you might want to look at this link. i first posted on here when I was having similar problems to yourself - It's a long thread, so you might want to settle down with a cuppa before reading :) viewtopic.php?f=26&t=2797
As for Lantus and mood swings, & Lantus and depression, a google search will show you are not alone.
Jus :)

Thanx huni,
I did actually read all the posts about it in that link and that's what has really inspired me to do something about it, so thank you. I spoke to the nurse a day or so ago and I have a feeling I might experience a bit of reluctance from them when I broach the subject of changing, so far they've said they wanna do an HB1C first which is OK but mine have always been ***** so I think it may be a staling tactic, plus even if it's perfect it doesn't change the fact I am still suffering with depression. I've got some info from the IDDT through the post today so I'll get that cup of tea to sift through that lot Lol. I'll keep u posted. How long b4 you started to see the benefits from switching ??
Thanks again
Jackie

HI Jackie,
No thanks needed, I'm jus glad someones reading it! LOL My going on & on & on like Mrs Doyle is not in vain after all
I noticed a difference from day 1- the first morning I stopped Lantus my head felt clearer and I felt human again, like my old pre-Lantus self. it's different for everyone, so if you don't feel it immediately, don't be disheartened.
Give the IDDT a ring too for support, especially regarding approaching your care team. Don't be deterred, although I know that's not easy when you're feeling lousy and depressed. You're not alone, we're an ever increasing bunch, so keep strong, you might be pleasantly surprised like I was :)
Jus x

That's really good of you and it really helps me to keep motivated with advice and support from you and this forum. I'll keep you posted :)
