Animas 2020 versus Paradigm Veo

Hey guys,

I'm really excited as I'm just about to order my insulin pump!! I've given a lot of thought as to which I'd like (I'm lucky that my diabetes centre is able to offer a choice of about five). I've narrowed it down to the Animas 2020 and Paradigm Veo. I can't decide which is more appropriate for me and was wondering if those on these types of pumps would be able to provide me with some advice. I've had a good look at the websites but I'd like to hear about it from a current user!

The reasons I like the Animas is that it's small and quite a sophisticated design. The screen is quite aesthetically pleasing, I find. It's also waterproof which is something I want to bear in mind.

The Paradigm is great though because of the remote control aspect. It would be so handy if I were wearing a dress, for example, and I didn't have to hitch up my skirt or go to the bathroom to bolus! Do people find the remote control useful? I'm not so keen on the design of the paradigm, though. The other special features offered seem similar on both. I would quite like the vibrate alert on the Paradigm too as I work with vulnerable people and having a pump alert go off would not be very appropriate. I assume this is the case for most people ?

Are there anymore aspects that you like about the two pumps?

Thanks

I know next to nothing about the Animas, but have a Paradigm 522 which is basically the same as the Veo. I'm sure an Animas user will come along soon.

I very rarely use the remote option, bit like one of those Christmas prezzies you play with for hours then never touch again. The remote function is VERY basic only, bit disappointing really.

The vibrating alert is useful, since the audible one is next to useless unless you're in a very quiet room.

If you ever want to use CGM you'd need the Veo I think, and another really handy feature is that you can pair it with a Bayer Contour Link meter, so that meter readings are transmitted direct to the pump so they're already there when using the bolus wizard (which is another great thing, but I assume the Animas has this too?). Simple but great and I use this all the time.

Lucky you having a choice! You get what you're given at my clinic!

I got to choose between the Animas 2020 and the Accu-chek combo and went for the Accu-chek, even though the Animas was smaller and the buttons were more user friendly, I decided the Accu chek was more 'me' and I love the remote control/meter gizmo that comes with it  thought the Animas was fab though, very user friendly :D as for aesthetics, I am going to buy a bunch of 'sleeves' for the accu chek so I can colour co-ordinate  as for the remote control part, your dress comment is exactly why I am going for a remote control! I find it hard enough injecting when wearing a dress and tights, have to practically disrobe to inject!

Good luck with whichever you choose :D

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all your useful posts. Wow, it's quite the decision. I'm sure I'll be happy whatever I get, but it still seems tough choosing. I know, it's such a luxury to have a choice!

I'll let you know how I get on :)

Beth
