Well, I had my annual review today and hadn't told the DN of my lifestyle change 6 weeks ago to LCHF or that I'd taken myself off statins at the start of the year.

I do believe I'm one of the lucky ones with my surgery as despite "only" being T2, I do get testing strips and lancets on prescription. Today I also got a little book called a Wellness Diary ;)

DN was so pleased with my results that she has entered them in the Wellness Diary for me.

Last year my HbA1c was 97. Today it is 63 :)

Blood pressure today - 131/80

Weight loss since October 2013 = 4kgs (but no weight loss since starting LCHF)

eGFR today = 0.8 :)

BUT cholesterol is up from 3.3 to 5.3. I had to confess I'd taken myself off statins and she didn't seem too concerned and has given me another 3 months to see how I get on without them before deciding if I should go back on them.

I did tell her I'd changed my eating habits and increased my exercise and she didn't ask any questions. I think I've got one of the good 'un's!

All in all, for just 6 weeks of LCHF, I'd say it works!

Well done you! Brilliant improvement, you must be over the moon.

Interesting about your cholesterol rising after stopping statins. I stopped mine 3 days ago. Maybe I should have a re-think.

Are you sure your eGFR is 0.8? It should be over 90, or over 60 with no kidney malfunctions. Mine was 64.

That's quite a shift in your blood score Diana. Well done.

My cholesterol was down after 3 months, but I understand that often takes a bit longer anyway. Are you convinced of their benefits for women? Forgive me, but I can't recall if you have any of the flags for additional benefits from them.

Onward and upwards (or downwards, as we would prefer).

Thank you, @Bluetit1802 . The jury's still out with my cholesterol but at least I've been given an extra 3 months grace and didn't get my knuckles rapped. Do let us know what you decide to do about statins.

Still finding my way round my swanky new Wellness Diary. Oooops! ACR = 0.8. eGFR = 75. How does that sound? :)

Much better! I think you might have been dead at 0.8% :(

As for the statins, I only stopped taking them as a temporary measure to see if not having them helps my morning fasting levels. Once my experiment is over I may go back to them.

Very well done Diana, keep it up!

Two new acronyms there for me though - what are ACR and eGFR?

The ACR is a urine test and is the ratio between albumin and creatinine in the urine, for kidney function.
The eGFR is an estimated glomerular filtration rate, again for kidney functions.

Awesome result! How's it going with the dress fitting? :)

I shouldn't worry about total cholesterol. Were you given the breakdown? The numbers that are of importance are triglycerides (should be low) and HDL (should be high). My total is 6.9 and have told my GP that he can keep testing but I will never take statins as long as my HDL is almost 2 and Tri below 1.

Thanks @Totto . No I didn't get a breakdown but I wil make sure I do next time. Thank you for the tip and the encouragement.

Thanks @Scandichic . All credit to you, your early encouragement and yummy recipes :)

Dress fitting was yesterday. No visible changes in my measurements but I'm sanguine about it. Fasting bloods this morning were the lowest ever - 6.9 - so am focusing on that, and yesterday's results.

How's you this fine Saturday? :joyful:

It should be there Diana - ask for a full printout of the results, you are entitled.

I agree with Rod. Ask for the full print out. The receptionist maybe able to do this for you if you ring. If not, the nurse will do it and you can bob in and collect it.
