Was diagnosed T2 at the start of the month and am gradually coming to terms with it. I supposedly "don't have the profile" whatever that means, and the DN said I was young for it (at 60??) even though it's in the wider family. Anyway I'm glad to have found this forum last week. The first week of July was sort of hanging, after the initial blood tests were taken. Then I had to see the DN in the second week. She seems to think it'll be tablets for me (skipping over metformin) as weight and exercise and diet okay – but set the next meeting for Sept even though it "had to be dealt with now". I just didn't get it and was confused.

I left feeling something was wrong. I couldn't logically follow her argument to eat starch at every meal. I know it's all old hat for you peeps, now I've been here a week – but back then, I felt very alone and fearful of becoming non-compliant as I couldn't agree with it. That was what sent me searching the internet and that was what led me here. It was such a relief to find I wasn't the only one in the universe finding fault with the NICE Guidelines!

I now have the nano and the test strips and this week started testing, which feels like I'm getting a grip on things. I'm just a tad scared to go back and say what I'm doing. It reminds of the ADHD arguments that rage over dishing out ritalin when it's psychosocial (I'm a child therapist) and I didn't want to get involved with another contentious area. But I sure as hell will not eat loads of carbs followed by loads of tablets in a vicious circle. So here's hoping this new regime will produce figures that prove my point. Otherwise I'm either going to look silly or have to keep quiet - not something I'm terribly good at  My chief emotion has been distrust of those I'm meant to trust to look after me, which is a sorry state of affairs so I hope they will see things my way when I 'fess up.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello and that this forum is a life saver and I'm reading all the posts and learning by the day. Thanks to everyone who has posted in the past, too, as that info is still here as a resource.

For the record (feels more real this way!): Fasting BG first recorded at GP's as 8.3; this week on lowered carbs, it's been 6.8, 6.8 and 5.9 so here's hoping things are looking up. I'm now launching into befores and afters!
