Hi.
Have been 'pre-diabetic' for a decade, but finally my HbA1c has tipped over, going up suddenly from 47 to 56 ... can't now remember why I was first thought to be at risk, but my previous GP had me doing GTT once a year. I've been on Metformin for 2 years already ... as a pre-diabetic.
Have other risk factors ... genetically high cholesterol, and hypertensive for 20 years now (since being pregnant - I blame the kids). So am on ACE and statins, too.
Ho hum. Although I've been expecting it, the diagnosis a couple of months ago has flattened me somewhat and I'm feeling rather low about things. But anyway ... have been testing as I was given a meter on diagnosis with a supply of strips (have yet to agree with GP to provide them on prescription) ... trying to eat low carb (rather than the suggested 'starchy foods at every meal') and testing before and 2 hours after. Seems to be going OK ... it's certainly proved that carbs of any description don't suit me.
I already know a fair bit about things, as I've been reading around the subject for years ... LCHF, different views on statins etc ... just thought I'd join in here and see what's going on.
So here goes ... Hello
