I hate ironing so I don't do it until the pile is falling over. Today, after lunch, was attack the ironing afternoon. Two hours after lunch my reading was 6.4 and then, after 3 hours ironing 7.7. It is obviously bad for me and I need to give it up! Any ideas why this happened?

Hi sally...
As you say you 'dont' like ironing - could it be that the 'stress' of doing it pushed your
levels upwards !!
I hate the tackleing certain things in the home and my levels go up when doing/done them...
Stress can push our blood levels UP...
Hope this helps?
Anna.

Yep, definitely stress related, stress leads to higher levels so the ironing will have to stop. Ahem. :D

Psst..Sally..who cares why it happened, you got an excuse to ditch the ironing board!

Thanks Anna and Ladybird. A few more comments along these lines and I can prove to my husband that the knowledgeable people here think that further ironing will be detrimental to my health and I will have to give it up.

Now, what other things can I test for ...

Hoovering???
I ruddy HATE doing this ...
This always shoves my blood sugars UP ...
Anna.

Ha ha I'm so glad I'm not the only one who tries to find excuses not to do ironining, cleaning, hoovering.

No idea why it would have sent your sugars up, but you definitely don't want to risk it happening again ;)

Sally
i agree ironing isn't good for you. I use a vertical steamer, which is much less damaging to the BG and to the temper.
And Inever iron anything I don't need to. So no ironed bedlinen in this house unless we have special guests.
Hana

Ironing bed linen - I never even thought of that. I feel quite slovenly now!

I have a vertical steamer but I don't think I have taken it out of the box yet - possibly time to investigate. * Thinks to herself, maybe that could double as a moisturising facial at the same time*

Stick on iPod or watch TV it helps to keep my stress in check. :)

Ironing is a waste of the Earth's resources. I hardly do any ironing at all, and no I don't look creased all the time.

I used to know someone who ironed Tea towels and tights
I on the other hand very rarely iron anything!! I find it lowers blood sugars rapidly along with gardening and hoovering.

Cant 'understand' folk that iron every bit of their underwear!!!
Whats the point? :?: :?: :?:
No-one ever see's this ... :?
Anna.

i dont mind ironing as long as i put a dvd in and have something to distract me....

....now hoovering i do not like!!! always bumping into the blooming thing!!!!!

in general it is untideness and mess that causes me stress.....i do not mind cleaning :) (yes i am wierd!!)

claymic...
You dont sound weird at all...
Just well organised! :D
I enjoy keeping things in place and my home/garden looking clean n tidy!
It keeps me active and my BG level's reasonable ?
But my own 'pet hate' is the hoovering ... it just stresses me to do this home chore.
Avoid it n cajole my lovely hubby to do it for me. [he does!]
Anna.

I haven't ironed anything in decades. Simply refuse to do it. I hang up anything vulnerable to dry and that seems to be good enough for me.

I envy you Etty!!

My mum can do that but she lives in Malta where people can hang clothes out and 2 hrs later they are all dry and practically starched....i am soooo jealous.. when i first moved to England I used to call my mother virtually in tears because I could not get any clothes dried!! ....yep i am definitely wierd

Hi Sally!

I hate ironing too. Only do it on a 'need to wear it' basis. I read recently (I think it may have been in Balance magazine) that exercise can either increase or decrease sugar levels. I'm type 2 and levels increase for me. I don't know the mechanics behind it though. I have a 63 year old type 1 friend who says even walking to the shops increases her sugar levels yet swimming lowers them! Add heat into the equation and that's a whole new ball game. There's one to ponder.

Have you tried ironing to chill out music just in case it is stress related? Maybe light a scented candle and do the whole hippy thing?

Love Juliette x
