Anti VEGF Injections needed and feeling incredibly scared and sad

Last year I was diagnosed with prolific diabetic retinopathy and underwent laser treatments on both eyes for three months and it was extremely painful for me. At my three month checkup, the doctor said everything looked perfect but two days ago he told me the irregular blood vessels are starting to grow again and I need Avastin injections - probably 5 in each eye over several months. I am completely devastated and haven’t stopped crying for two days. I am absolutely terrified and extremely down about this news. Please share any positive experiences or news about these treatments if you have any, avoid any negative info please as I don’t think I can handle seeing it.

Hi @SoCalJulie & welcome to the forum, I can’t help as I’ve no experience of this but I’ll tag one of members @Jaylee who I know has had success with the Anti VEGF injections

Hi,

OK. Anti-VEGF.

Yes I had it for macula oedema (now “maculopathy.”)
I was diagnosed 10 years ago. Had 7 years of nothing after treatment in both eyes.
But recently had a short course in the right eye. (3 you know what’s..)
2 weeks back after a scan got the all clear again..

OK? I just looked up what they plan to give you here.

I started off on a course of Eylea. In the right eye.
Then Lucentis in both but only for a short time before continuing Lucentis with the right eye.
After a course of 6 injections over 6 months 10 years ago. My left eye has done great.!

Don’t drive to the appointment. (They recommend.)
I’d also suggest dark glasses & possibly a peaked hat in bright weather as even catching a bus after can look like Oxford street at Christmas looking at the LED screen on the front of the bus?
Local anaesthetic eye drops involved..

I found the ophthalmology team kind considerate & companionate during the procedure.
Always given information on what’s happening.
With even the offer of a hand hold should I need it from the assistant..
lol, the last one was male. Nice of him. But still not my type?

Best wishes.
