Type of diabetes
Type 1
Treatment type
Insulin
I am type 1 and have only been diagnosed for a year and a half at first I just accepted it and got on with it then reality suddenly hit that I have this and it’s for good and like a ton of bricks anxiety that I have never experienced before has hit me. I totally over worry about things I hate going out I get hot I feel sick get shaky feels like a weight on my chest. Even though my diabetic nurse has said the feelings I get are ‘normal’ and it’s normal to have emotions that are up and down I don’t know any other diabetics that may understand how I’m feeling. I do have a very supportive family and partner but friends in the same boat would be lovely. Xxx

I worry a bit about things especially if I have to drive to travel on my own but generally I think we've got to be pragmatic. I have a little talk to myself, smile and do it.......................and it works which makes me feel better.

Hi @charliemann has others have said many of us have bouts of anxiety including me worrying about everything but I spoke about it to my doctor and he referred me on a course to help with how to understand and cope with it all, your description of your anxiety is very real and it's good you have a supportive family but it can get out of control. If this is how You feel seek help now before it becomes overwhelming. Occasional bouts of anxiety is Has your nurse normal but if it doesn't settle down it's not normal it's a problem you need help with. Wish you well! K

I do the same - deep breaths, calm down, just do it.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply and I will be taking all of your advise on board. I am going on a course this summer so let’s hope that helps. Xx
