Hi - and I wonder if anyone could shed a little light on why this sometimes happens to me.

I began the day well, with what I consider a good fasting BG of 5.7mmol/L ( i've been working on it since June and started in the 8s ).

I had a cup of black coffee with no sweetener of any description.

At 7.30am I had an almond porridge made of almonds, linseeds, oatbran and full milk - (which very often has me well within normal range post prandially ).

I go to work at 8.45am. I teach Yoga from 9.30 until 12.30 with nothing further to eat or drink.

I get home, test my blood and I get a 7.7 which I think is weirdly high considering what I've eaten - and that it has been over 5hrs since I've eaten - and I have been active.

As I said, this happens occasionally. I'm not unwell or tired or stressed or on any medication.

Do any of you good people understand why this happens? I'd be grateful!

Dodgy strip, not enough blood etc. would be my guess. :)

Thanks xyzzy

I hadn't gone in that direction with my thinking. Next time it happens I will double test. :)

As xyzzy says it could be a doggy strip, but if you retest and get a similar result then I'd suspect that you've had a liver dump. It can happen at any time if you get low enough, not just in the morning.

Does dehydration cause higher blood sugars? If so perhaps have a drink of water.

I also sometimes get a high reading after exercise, especially if I leave it too long before eating - I've always assumed it's a liver dump.

Thanks all and thanks for the link, CarbsRok. I had wondered if it could be a liver dump - and I hadn't had a drink of water since breakfast which I know is really bad.

Cheers! xx

I'd go for liver dump. I'm normally in the 4's before lunch after a normal morning, can be late 3's with a bit of moderate exercise. If I overdo the exercise, I can suddenly be back in the 6's. Might be worth testing at about three hours, or 4, to see how low you're getting just for invetigative purposes. If I do sustained exercise, like golf, I have an apple or something during it just to keep the fuel up. As a type 2 diet only, don't go doing something silly like taking glucotabs or eating white bread just for the sake of it; it's not like you're going to have a bad hypo, just take advantage of the low sugar level to eat something nice and useful.
