OK, so last year my Consultant told me to give up cigarettes - it was a hard slog but I did it (cold turkey !) and quit from 40/day to zilch

(If I can do that, then the Newecastle Diet is a walk in the park !)

But I still, ocasionally like to smoke a bowlful of nice tobacco in my pipe -- and I really enjoy it

Its a filter pipe (9mm charcoal filter) so little or no tar and none of the chemicals in cigarettes, just natural flake (cooler burning) tobacco

Was wondering if there were any more pipe smokers on here, and if so, what you smoke & in what ?

I don't mean bong, just natural real tobacco

....... or am I alone -- 46 going on 86 ......... pass me my slippers :)

My dad used to smoke a pipe years ago, but gave it up. As a teenager I used to clean out his pipe rack with the pipe cleaners and buff the wooden stand and give his pipes a little clean. When I was older I used to go to the towns tobacconist and buy his Condor baccy and at Christmas time a small packet of cigars. Such memories, well done on giving up the cigarettes, I used to smoke too, 5 years smoke free. now. Tobacco is still smoking though, but it's down to you.

Best wishes RRB ps I even have my dad's pipe hankie with pictures of pipes on it. pps my dad is still alive at 91

From cancer in the lungs to cancer in the mouth ?

FYI I gave up almost 26 years ago, had to, was in intensive care after a heart attack at age 46.

I used to smoke 80 cigarettes a day, I was totally addicted, it would be a great pity if you spoiled your very admirable feat of giving up nicotine.

To be honest, I can take it or leave it, I just enjoy it

Unlike ciggies, I can't smoke my pipe when I'm stressed out or uptight and have no need for nicotine in those cicumstances - I have a glass of water instead ..... or a black coffee

As RRB pointed out, pipe smoking is very 'ritualistic' and the prep is as enjoyable as the smoke

On holiday once in Switzerland, in front of a roaring log fire, I enjoyed half a bowlful of whatever it was I was enjoying and my friends wife walked past commenting "Jeez - if you were any more chilled out you'd be in a coma !" :)

I don't drink and I don't smoke my pipe to excess as I appreciate my own achievement of giving up ciggies - but one needs to have some vices in life ....... there's only kinky sex left :D:D

............................and that you can also do in front of a roaring fire and you dont even need to travel to Switzerland.

I love the smell of a pipe, hubs used to smoke a Meerschaum pipe I know he did the best for him in giving up but I do miss the smell that and a good cigar mmmmmmmmmmmm
