Hi all I a a new member to the site but have had type 2 for 3years now.

I have been under good control for most of the time and was taking 2x1000mg once a day. About 4-5 weeks ago I was prescribed fluoxetine for post traumatic stress and anxiety after loosing my eye and other horrible stuff happening to me. Anyways turns out the go missed a trick as this med is known to affect blood sugar levels. I went back to my gp and was eventually put on a different anti depressant and 100mg of januvia was also added to my meds regime. It's been 10days now and my bloods are still not coming down. The only way I can get them low is by skipping my meals which has obvious issues its self. My concern is that the rise in my blood sugars has caused my condition to become worse and I am now really scared. Any help would be great fully received.

Hello and welcome to the forum Stevens. So sorry to hear of your problems, other medication can cause high BS, also stress, worry, illness and anxiety. If it continues to cause you concern go back to your GP for help and advice.
Hopefully another type 2 will be able to help, but good luck and all the best.

The change in your meds has clearly had an impact. And I'm sorry to hear about your eye and the PTSD. That isn't going to be helping AT ALL (stress, disrupted sleep, etc.)

But the other factor is diet. And it's also the quickest and easiest to alter.
Is it possible that, with all the other stuff you have had going on, that your diet has changed? Especially with Christmas food around at the moment?

I would definitely have a word with your doc - raised BG needs their input.
But I would combine that with a long hard look at what you are eating. Carb content, bread, biscuits, potato, rice and pasta... Going low carb has been great for my blood glucose levels.

Hi @Stevens2357,

Have you had any psychological help for your PTSD? If not, then I would ask for some as there are programmes and psychological help for sufferers.
Your anxiety and awareness are usually sky high suffering a trauma of the magnitude that you describe and whilst many anti-depressants will help, some also raise blood sugars.
As you had good control before, it is likely that your blood sugars will go down once you have come to terms with the PTSD. An anti-depressant is only a sticking plaster so please ask for the help you need. There are outpatient and inpatient programmes.
 
Hi thanks for your reply I forgot to say all of the trauma I have faced happened before I was diagnosed with diabetes. I am also receiving cut therapy for the trauma.

low carbing is certainly an option to consider.
as is a request to your GP or diabetic nurse for an urgent review of your meds
