Helllo everyone! I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to help my daughter become more independant in dealing with her hypos and insulin at school and friends houses etc!
She is type 1 and has been for nearly 2 years but shes starting secondary school next year and im trying to make her more independant i will always be on the end of the phone for her (obviously) but i think its important she feels confident on deciding what to ahve if shes low or what insulin she thinks for the food shes eating! i try to involove her when im deciding her insuling saying right youve got tis for dinner how many units do u think! we are pretty much carb counting and i involve her in it all and explain why i think this many units and i feel she understands. There is a careplan in place at the school which they are pretty good with but like today for example she had a hypo3.4mmol at 2.10pm and her TA who normally sits with her to help if she needs it wasnt there today so she got on with it and decided on 2 dextrose and rechecked 15 mins later and was 4.2mmol so decided she better have another tablet to stop it going down again! no carbs!!!
i told her after school once she'd told me whats she'd done that 1 dextrose probaly would of done the job let alone 3! and asked her why she didnt eat a breadstiuck after rechecking!
/ its little things like that, that i would appreicate advice on ideas on making her remember how we treat hypos at home and to remember the things she should be doing ?
i put notes in her bag reminding her of the things shes gotta do and how to do them i also stuck a note on her classroom wall where she sits when shes low and she still didnt do it right lol so im at a point where i literally dunno what else to do!
i dont wanna be to harsh on her but i dont wanna be to soft either
/
any advice?
thanks
