Can anyone offer suggestions on the most sympathetic car insurers? My circumstances have changed and I shall not be covered for more than a few more days on the joint policy held by my (nearly ex-) husband's existing (Aviva) policy and need new cover. (The quote received by them for me without another policy in the same household is twice the price of the cover we had for both of us!). My diabetes is under good control (and has been for years) and I have a perfect no-claims or convictions history. I'm hoping someone can save me some time by suggesting which insurers to try, as I'd prefer not to spend too many hours looking for online quotes that may turn out to be ludicrously high! Thank you!

Diabetes shouldn't impact an insurer's view of you. Provided you are considered medically fit to drive you should NOT be discriminated against.

I do sympathise, but it is true that another person on the policy can be extremely helpful. My OH and I have both been driving many, many years, and have full no claims bonuses, but still it is cheaper to have each other named. We would anyway, for convenience.

It is more likely that as a named driver on another policy you have no official no claims discount in your own name. Most companies will only recognise one person for the NCD, and that'll always be the person owning the policy, so likely your husband.

The other person on the policy doesn't have to live with you, so could be a parent, sibling, or even a friend - provided they have a license and no horrors in their history.

Have you tried the usual Go Compare, MoneySupermarket and such likes? It never fails to astonish me how different premiums can be.

We have been with LV for a few years now, on multi-car policies. They have been excellent and easy to deal with. I don't think they are on the comparison sites.

Good luck with it.

Hi,

You could take a look at Lifesure?
I drive jap import vans & I've found the insurance premiums highly competitive to elsewhere.
I've been pleasantly surprised on the renewal proposals too.

Good luck.

With no changes to health, my car insurance doubled in price, earlier this year. Explained as cost of living crisis increase, but we all know it is Corporate Greed as the insurers overheads have certainly not doubled during last 12 months, but their profits have increased ten fold.......
Good luck to you with finding some value here. I'm watching with interest as I will be jumping aboard with you I guess and leaving the thieves that I'm with.

Apart from being in the over 50s bracket. There was no changes for me a few years back..

Apart from changing my van to a newer model. (7 years newer.) I was gobsmacked at the quotes when I shopped about elsewhere.
You would have thought it was for a teen in an RS turbo?? Other’s wouldn’t touch it..
I stuck with the company I’ve used for 13 years on the old van which was more reasonable & affordable. From memory. On the following year the proposal dropped by 80 quid.? (This included insurance whilst in the EU on leisure.)
