I am T2 on insulin and have been pricking and testing for 4/5 years but recently have been having bleeds after testing that seem to go on for ages I only notice it when everything is spotted with blood. Just wondered if this was just one of those odd things with me.
There are a few reasons why I bleed more
- my hands are hot. This is more likely with the warm weather.
- I have been exercising so my blood is pumping more freely
- if I prick on the side of my finger. I guess the blood vessels are closer to the skin where there is no "fleshy part"?
Hi coxymk2 just a thought have you been put on any blood thinning medication recently I know sometimes if i prick my finger to deeply it's takes ages to stop bleeding let us know what happens?
you could also be low in vitamin K which is the coagulation vitamin.. and or vitamin C
kale is rich in both kinds of vitamins .. if you maybe eat a little kale everyday for a month then I think your blood will coagulate more easily.
a blood that has a hard time coagulating can also be caused from blood thinners like f.x. painkillers and actually also from eating very much fish oil... it is healthy to eat very much fish oil, but maybe then one ought to eat more vitamin K ..

Hi Coxy, If you are not on an anticoagulant and have a good diet of green veg etc, perhaps you should mention it to your doctor and get your blood checked. It may be something or nothing, he may get your platelets checked. regards Derek
Have you tried immediately putting direct pressure on the puncture site eg from your thumb, for over a minute without break? That should prevent further bleeding and if it doesn't, definitely check with your doctor! (by the way, lucky you, sometimes it takes three or more stabs to get enough blood for me to test!)
