Anyone have a filling between their two front teeth?

I'll be honest, it's been 3yrs since my last dentist visit but I recently saw the hygienist and he told me that he could see that I have a shadow between my two top front teeth which is indicative of a cavity forming. So long story short, I will need to get a filling done right in the middle of my two front teeth. The cavity hasn't developed yet so he said they will cut away the area and fill it.

Does anyone have a filling in this area? I'm dreading it and am concerned that like with a lot of fillings it will end up looking really obvious and grubby.

I did have one, a white filling which wasn't too bad but after some years it did discolour slightly, prob due to tea & coffee consumption. Eventually due to gum disease I had the tooth out & a bridge fitted. Go for the filling, it will be a while before it discolours & when it does dentist can probably refill it

Thank you, Chris.

Yes, if it needs doing, better sooner rather than when s cavity does actually kick in.

I've got a small filling at the bottom of one of my front teeth, which I have had for several years. The difference in colour is so small that it doesn't show at all. Go for it!

I have a small white filling on one of my front teeth which was done many years ago. That hasn't discoloured. On the other hand, a couple of years ago, my dentist covered the top of a couple of sensitive teeth (at gum level) in something similar to a white filling - there was no drilling. Whatever this was, it stained quite badly after about a year. I pointed it out at my next dental appointment and it seemed to be replaced with something else. Touch wood, this seems to be OK.

If you're worried about staining, why not ask your dentist about it?

I can't say I have such a filling, but in my time, I have probably done thousands of them. The Hygienist isn't qualified to make the diagnosis of a cavity, and prescribe a restoration, although if she is experienced she's highly likely to be right, but your Dentist will make the final decision as to whether you need work now (or later).

Over the years, filling materials have improved enormously, but how the individual lives their life also impacts on the likelihood of any discolouration. By that I mean, smoking, drinking red wine or black coffee, as examples.

Whatever materials are used, the smaller the restoration is, the less chance there is of it being noticeable.
