Anyone know what a serum test is?

Just rang surgery and they said I have to see GP because of my result for a serum test that my diabetes nurse did last week and I havn't a clue what they mean and the receptionist didn't either and couldn't find out before they closed for me, the earliest appt I could get was on the 26th

Serum test is just another name for blood test.
